Fruit Palace presents South East London’s JOEL CULPEPPER whose distinctive style has led some to describe him as ‘the UK’s answer to Andre 3000 and Frank Ocean.’
His EP ‘Tortoise’ represents a creative milestone in the alt R&B singer and songwriter’s burgeoning career. It’s title is inspired by the timeless tale of the ‘Tortoise and the Hare’, which speaks to Joel’s own evolution, and journeys through different genres drifting from traditional 60’s and 70’s inspired R&B to contemporary electronic R&B and hip hop, creating a signature ‘retrofuturist’ sound. His most recent release of ‘Woman’ via Colors reached almost one million views in it’s first month.

FOOTSHOOTER (DJ Set) & BROTHER PORTRAIT. Producer/DJ/Musician FOOTSHOOTER’s sound explores grooves and rhythms spanning UK dance music combined with the melodic vibrations of jazz and soul. He blends these with spoken word poetry, rapping and vocals from artists in the South East London scene. Cutting his teeth over the past few years warming up for acts such as Yussef Kamaal, Andrew Ashong, Vels Trio and Alfa Mist. FOOTSHOOTER’s latest release ‘Strange Days EP’ has caught the attention of the likes of Bonobo, who dropped the opening track in a recent Boiler Room set in NYC. Joining him for his DJ Set on the mic will be poet/MC BROTHER PORTRAIT, who will be toasting over the rhythms throughout.
