FRUIT PALACE presents Cornwall’s premier reggae act BACKBEAT SOUNDSYSTEM. In a UK reggae scene that has long eschewed bands in favour of sound systems, BACKBEAT SOUNDSYSTEM are a different beast, bringing 8 musicians to the stage. While many of their peers attempt to recreate an authentic Jamaican-leaning sound, BACKBEAT SOUNDSYSTEM tread their own path pulling in influences from across the musical spectrum creating their own vision of modern reggae. Dean and Adjua effortlessly tear up the stage with lush harmonies, soaring melodies and natural born chemistry. This combined with a flawless horn section and undeniable groove leaves the audience mesmerised by their show stopping performance. Bringing an electronic flavour to the mix, with dub effects, sirens and live analog synthesiser, BACKBEAT SOUNDSYSTEM remind the world that dub reggae is at the forefront of dance music culture.

Following the success of two self-released EPs and two tours with Easy Star All-Stars the band were signed to Easy Star’s label Easy Star Records. Together Not Apart, the band’s debut album, came out in 2014 via Easy Star and brought a worldwide audience to this ambitious young band. Since forming in 2008, BACKBEAT SOUNDSYSTEM have appeared at many of the UK’s leading festivals, including Glastonbury, Boomtown, Secret Garden, Greenman, as well as toured in Europe and the United States. They’ve supported Madness, Cypress Hill, Arrested Development, Tinie Tempah, The Streets, and Dub Pistols.

UK debut by musician/composer ORLANDO SANTOS considered one of Portugal’s finest vocalists. Gifted with exceptional talent, Orlando’s work takes influences from Reggae, Blues and Soul and it is in his live performances when some of his most iconic moments happen.
Orlando’s first album ‘My Soul’, released on Sony Music in 2013, gave voice to a lot of original songs of Reggae influence. Currently Orlando is preparing for the release of his second album ‘Box of Light’ where he explores new sounds, more linked to Soul music. His compositions are marked by words of hope and love for all beings, where the concern for nature or the observation of social changes stand out. He is adept at playing ‘slide guitar’ on an instrument given to him by Ben Harper after one of Orlando’s concerts.
He’s appeared alongside John Legend and recorded with a number of leading artists including: Petaah Morgan (Morgan Heritage) – ‘Only Love’, Buraka Sound System – ‘Restless’ and Orelha Negra – ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ among others. Don’t miss this special talent play a one off show in the UK.
